What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a holistic therapy which is incredibly relaxing! It is what we all need – with so much stress and pressure in our daily lives sometimes! It goes much deeper than just a foot massage, it will not only de-stress you as it is so calming and relaxing but will help your mind and body re-centre and find balance. It will boost your immune system and help alleviate numerous health conditions and problems and what a treat and bonus that is!
Here is how it works!….
How reflexology works and the benefits!
Reflexology works on the premise that all your internal organs are mapped onto the soles of your feet and hands. With the gentle application of pressure and massage to these corresponding reflex points, it soothes and calms all the nerve endings in your feet, which then eases away muscular tension in your whole body, any stress and tiredness and restores balance back to the whole body again.
The Reflexologist can detect and feel any tiny deposits of uric acid crystals which have built up in the feet and hands as a result of sluggishness in certain organs. So, by massaging and breaking them down, the crystals are removed. Consequently, this improves the flow of blood and circulation back to all the organs in the body, thereby enabling those organs to function much better.
The relaxation and calm element induced during the reflexology treatment, enables the parasympathetic nervous system to work better too. During states of stress, the sympathetic nervous system is activated to allow the ‘fight or flight’ response to enable the body to cope and manage. It stimulates the adrenal gland to produce certain hormones which increases the heart rate and rushes blood to the muscles and brain by vasoconstriction, as well as increasing the blood sugar levels. This can help to deal with immediate danger, but can wreak havoc with the body if stimulated constantly due to this repeated stress response.
The parasympathetic nervous system which is known as the ‘rest and digest system’ has the opposite affect and allows the body to conserve energy because it slows the heart rate, increases intestinal and gland activity, and relaxes sphincter muscles in the gastrointestinal tract and calms the organs down. Consequently, with reflexology, this can be achieved during a treatment and so help ease mental and emotional conditions such as anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, mood swings and depression.
Reflexology and Cancer:
Reflexology complements cancer treatment very well in many ways. It can help the body to cope with the side effects of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and medications, and enable the body to heal quicker after surgery.
It can be quite a stressful time for people going through this experience, and so it can help calm the mind, giving the person a safe place to process the mixed emotions and worries. As well as time to rest and be pampered, which is very important during cancer treatment as it can sometimes feel like quite an invasive process in hospital. Reflexology can help the person stay centred and positive and assist the body to heal and cope. Treatments can also be combined with reiki, which is a gentle and non-invasive therapy and works wonders to still the mind and improve the energy flow.
I have worked with many clients going through cancer treatment (of the breast, ovaries, pancreas, gall bladder, liver, kidneys, prostate, oesophagus and skin) and have seen incredible benefits of reflexology and reiki during this period. I have warmly supported and walked beside my clients throughout their journey with positive results. I have experience of palliative care and have treated and supported clients and their family members during and post palliative.
Reflexology – Preconception and Pregnancy:
Reflexology is a wonderful way to physically and mentally prepare your body for conception. I am able to help boost the immune system and prepare the body for pregnancy, balancing the hormones and advise on various life style changes to help the process. I can also combine reflexology nicely with reiki as well to energetically remove blockages and improve the flow in preparation.
After the first trimester of pregnancy, it is safe to have reflexology which is wonderful, especially if you are fatigued and nauseous! It can work wonders to calm and relax you as the Mother and baby too, for the coming months. It will help the body to adjust better to the physical changes in the 2nd and 3rd trimester in preparation for the birth by keeping your immune system strong.
I have treated many clients pre-pregnancy, preparing for IVF and during pregnancy from the 2nd trimester, up till the birth and after for some much needed relaxation time. I have also had the pleasure to treat clients again during their second pregnancies too.
Reflexology will ease away your stress and tensions, improve circulation, eliminate toxins and boost the immune system. It will stimulate the body’s own natural healing ability which will help numerous health conditions!
As a reflexologist, I have over 19 years of solid experience treating clients with tremendously positive results! It is and has always been an incredibly rewarding and beautiful experience for me treating my clients and walking beside them along their own very personal journeys! I feel blessed always to be working in a job that is so rewarding!
Come and try it out for yourself! I am looking forward to meeting you soon!
